Cooking Frozen Edamame
Cooking frozen edamame is a great start to a healthier meal. Although it is popular to eat edamame as is, it may be used for a variety of recipes. Whether you prefer salads, dips, stir fries or just the edamame served alone with different seasonings, you will be enjoying a health conscious meal. Here are some of the simpler snack recipes you start cooking today:
Spicy Edamame
Ingredients
- 2.5 cups of frozen edemame
- 4 teaspoons of Olive oil
- .25 teaspoon of paprika
- .25 teaspoon of grounded black pepper
- 1 teaspoon of chili powder (your favorite)
- .5 teaspoon of basil
Directions
- Heat your oven to 370 degrees F.
- Thaw your frozen edamame until they are firm but not stiff to the touch.
- In a bowl, mix the olive oil and the rest of the dried ingredients with the edamame until every piece is covered evenly with spices.
- Place the mix onto a baking dish and bake it in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until the edamame has been cooked to a brown colored glaze.
- Stir the mix half way through cooking edamame for an even texture.
- Place it in a bowl to serve as a snack.
- It is preferably served cool.
Garlic Edamame
Ingredients
- 32 ounes of frozen edamame
- .5 cup of water
- 4 sliced and diced garlic cloves
- 4 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 4 tablespoons of sesame seeds
- 4 tablespoons of vinegar
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil (sesame oil if you prefer)
Directions
- Add the small bits of garlic to the water and boil. Stir in and cook the frozen edamame for 5 minutes or until the liquid is nearly gone. Lower the heat temperature to a medium and stir in the oil, the vinegar and the brown sugar (for a teriyaki flavor add your favorite teriyaki sauce!).
- Keep stirring until the cooked edamame is covered evenly in the sauce.
- Add a sprinkle of sesame seeds before you serve it in a bowl.
- It may be served cool or warm.
An Edamame Dip
Ingredients
- 2 cups of frozen edamame
- 1.2-2 peppers of your choosing
- 3 garlic cloves
- 4 tablespoons of olive oil
- 2 tablespoons of hot sauce of your choosing
- 2 tablespoons of water
- Add salt and pepper to your liking
Directions
- Thaw your frozen edamame until they are firm but not stiff to the touch.
- Blend the hot sauce, the olive oil, the peppers and the garlic cloves until the end result is a smooth mix.
- Add the edamame a bit at a time until the mix resumes its smooth texture.
- If needed added more water until it reaches a consistency of your liking.
- Add the salt and pepper for enhanced taste until you are pleased with the flaver.
- Serve in a bowl (add diced tomatoes on top for decoration) and eat with your favorit tortilla chips
- Note this snack does not require cooking edamame.
